  Quake: The Offering
Your journey has led you down a path of no return. The acrid smell of death fills the air. And you know that the road ahead may surely lead to your grave. But Quake and his insidious apocalyptic plans must be crushed. If you fail, evil will shroud the universe for all eternity.

Id Software and Activision have boxed good ol’ Quake with the mission packs and called it Quake: The Offering. In the box are two CD’s-Full version of Quake and the two Mission Packs on the other CD. "Scourge of Armagon- Mission Pack One" is a Ritual Entertainment product and " Dissolution of Eternity- Mission Pack Two" is produced by Rogue Entertainment. While it is an offering, Q2 has been available for some time with mission packs (separate though). But the strange thing is that there are still a lot of people playing the first version because the speed requirements are not as steep as Q2 and it is heavily used on the net. There is literally hundreds of maps (maybe thousands) ready to be downloaded at Quake websites. There doesn’t appear to be any thing beyond basic support at the commercial sites so I suggest that you use a search engine to find those custom Quake sites that will get you straightened out on any question you can imagine. If you download Gamespy (see link below) and have a net account, you can take Quake to new heights and play against other people in real time. Essentially Gamespy loads up lists of Quake servers and when you click on a server, it will connect you and start up Quake (as well as many other 3D games). Go further and you can get QuakeWorld. This program is entirely Internet oriented and works much like Gamespy to my knowledge. You play variations of ‘Capture the Flag’, ‘Team Fortress’, ‘Limbo’, and ‘Deathmatch’. It is quite an experience though I have to admit that since I installed Q2, I have never looked back. You ‘might ‘ have to install an update but those are free via download as well.

Quake is endearing as much as it is enduring and depending on the price on the shelf (should be only $30-40-max) it might help bring a resurge in interest.

……..On the other hand, Q2 has Weapons Factory and……..So what am I ‘Offered’ for a good game of deathmatch? Any takers……..

The warning from the box says "Mature(17+) Animated Blood and Gore plus Animated Violence.
