  Music Video Maker 6 Deluxe

I tested this software on a Windows 2000 enviroment and did experience a couple minor technicalities on install. The first, although minor, is that there was no custom install. The second was that it wrote over some Windows 2000 files on installation and required the Windows 2000 CD to restore them. It didn't cause any problems, but was more of an annoyance to have to search for the Windows 2000 CD.

But once I was in, look out! Wow, what a great program! Being a former nightclub and mobile DJ, I was a bit curious to see what this could do. Now keep in mind I have no music writing background and very little video editing experience. With the video files and over 3,300 sounds provided on the four CD's I was off making music videos that MTV or Much Music would be dying for! Well, ok, that may be a bit of a stretch, but it was really easy to do the basic stuff.

As for all of the actual editing it is all done graphically with the mouse using screens that are setup to look exactly like actual recording equiptment - right down to the 19" rack mount screws. I literally spent hours playing around with this gem (Don't tell Nick, our Publisher). I really didn't think I would be that impressed, maybe a short go around and that's about it. But time flies when you're having fun!

The multi-track arranger has room for 64 audio and video tracks. I can't see anyone using more than that, as some of the demos were pretty complex and barely used 10 tracks. There are 8 virtual instruments to play around with, each instrument with various tones, pitches or sounds - all customizable as well. The eight instruments are; Drum MAchine, Drum & Bass Machine; 3 Synthesizers, Sampler, Vocoder and Gater. The Karaoke feature filters out vocals and allows the option to insert lyrics to create Karaoke files. There is also a song wizard that allows you to create complete song arrangements with a single mouse click. The music is all then recorded in CD quality!

Dance, House, Techno, Hip-Hop, and Latin are among the many newest sound loops available. The audio effects rack suports real time effects such as reverb, delay, distortion, filters, and EQ. All curves, reverses, surround and normalize are all adjustable.

If that isn't enough for you to play with, there are more than 500 MB of videos files to get you started! The video control window is very intuitive and complete with over 40 real-time effects such as blue box, green screen, fading and titling to name a few. Single frames can be 'snapped' and exported as .jpg for the web or .bmp for print. The video control panel also has video capture capabilities built right in for easy integration of your own movie clips.

Music CD tracks can be imported as well WAV, MPEG, AVI and MP3 files can all be imported or exported. Streaming audio/video can also be eported in MPEG, RealAudio and MS Audio as well as Real Video and Quicktime. Another option is to export as a Magix PlayR Song for Magix own propriatory player.

Your productions can also be uploaded to Magix website publishing areas to share with the world. The internet capabilities also include the ability to have team sessions where you can arrange, chat and record as a group. Need to send that video or sound to a friend? No problem, you can do it directly from within the program itself and if you need more sound or video files they can be downloaded from the site as well.

As if the product isn't amazing in itself, the price is even more amazing! Or perhaps there is a typo on the Magix site - the site says it sells for $79.95 US - this program is a steal at ten times that amount! Well, I have to go now .... to practise up to get my big break in the music video industry!
