  Gini II Memory Reader/Writer
Words from the company:
As your digital memory cards grow in capacity, you’ll need Asanté’s Gini II Universal Memory Card Reader/Writer to help you speed up transfers of digital pictures, video, music and other data files—at speeds up to 40x faster than conventional USB 1 memory card readers.

By taking advantage of the new 480 Mbps Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, you’ll be moving digital multimedia files about as fast as your memory cards can handle. Even if you’re using a USB 1.1 (12 Mbps) port, you’ll find Gini is faster, more compatible and much more versatile than the serial or USB support included with your digital camera, digital camcorder or PDA. And when you upgrade to USB 2.0, Gini II will be ready for you.

With 4 media slots, Gini II lets you directly move digital files between different memory cards—eliminating the need for temporary hard disk space. The handy USB cable is long enough to reach the back of your computer and detaches easily when you travel.

The review:
A while back I did a review of the first Gini memory Card Reader/Writer and At that time I was delighted and impressed with the product. Along comes its newer sister the Gini II with a markedly improved speed performance at a very fast 480 Mbps (info from the company)

I plugged the unit into an XP Professional computer with a USB 2 connection and there it was without the need of software installation. I then proceeded to test the unit with 3 different memory cards; A memory stick, a smart card and a compactflash card and all three downloaded at super speeds. I placed 5 Mb on each card and they all seem to download at the same rate and that was fast. I do not have special technical or scientific meters to actually tell you if the speed was 480Mbps but for my needs they were very fast.

The looks and the size has not changed and for all intents and purposes I could not see too much difference other than speed in this new model and as with the older one, I would definitely recommend getting one if your needs require you to download from a variety of memory cards.(see list on screen shot 1)
