  Mephisto Chess Computer

I have been waiting for this product for almost a year and it is finally here. I was very excited to get it from Saitek for a number of reasons. Long time ago I used to have a little plastic box which had one of those chess sets that poked into the board and the pieces were very small and would fall out and then we had to start all over. Well here is Mephisto (don't know why it is called that) and it is terrific.

The first thing you notice is that the unit looks and weighs like a PDA. The feel of it is very solid. It is silver and black with a blue cover for the screen when you are not playing. One of the great features is that you can turn it off during a game and when you turn it back on the game is still there. This way you can play whenever you can squeeze a few minutes in and then go on about your business.

The game has a number of great features such as player against computer or two player mode, built in playing clock so you can time your games, a teaching mode so if you are just starting out it will help or guide you to learn the moves, and best of all being able to trade places. (A great feature if you are losing against the computer, just turn the tables). The touch screen is a bit dark and the company should have used a non glare glass but that is the only feature that I thought could use improvement.

I love my latest toy and if you are a chess player, you must get one of these; I recommend it highly.
